STEP 1: BEGINNING OF  YEAR (BOY) BENCHMARKING

Establish each student's starting level through online assessments for reading comprehension and oral reading fluency. 

Reading Comprehension: 20 questions

Oral Reading Fluency: Three 1 minute passages

 

STEP 2: GOAL SETTING & PROGRESS MONITORING

After BOY benchmarking, set individualized goals and commence progress monitoring.

ORF progress monitoring checks: One 1-minute passage every 10 days (approx.)

Review and update goals as needed.

 

STEP 3: ACTIONABLE DATA TRACKING

Use student data to personalize learning plans.

Data reporting includes Lexile® measures, as well as grade level approximations and percentile lines for easy interpretation. 

Why Oral Reading Fluency?

ORF is strongly correlated with reading comprehension and provides an efficient way to monitor growth while students are developing automatic, fluent word reading.

Measures for oral reading fluency and reading comprehension use a developmental scale, allowing educators to monitor growth within and across grades and connect students with appropriately challenging text.

Meaningful Reporting

 

Reports are available in two key views: 

  • how students are performing compared to national student norms at the 25th, 50th and 75th percentiles, and

  • individualized growth rates (growth factor).

All growth calculations and grade level approximations are calculated using the Lexile® Grade Level Charts from MetaMetrics Inc.
