What's the Challenge?
In post-pandemic classrooms, many students are reading years below grade level. For 9th grade teacher Benjamin Bray, the problem was clear:
-
Students behind grade level
-
Low confidence
-
Difficulty decoding words
"These 9th grade kids are walking in with an average reading level of third grade."

What's the Solution?
Readable English is a science-backed reading intervention that:
-
Breaks the phonemic barrier using visual glyphs
-
Builds confidence through structured progress
-
Supports Gen Ed, SpEd, and EL learners
-
Comes ready-to-use with a year’s worth of lessons pre-planned
"It feels like a cheat code. Some crazy number, just crazy amounts of success."
Results that Speak for Themselves
-
100% of students were either reclassified or improved at least one grade level
-
Significant growth, even in students who were ready to give up
-
Built in motivation through visible progress
"Students go from 'Reading is impossible' to 'I can do this.' That's everything."

The culture was definitely, what are we supposed to do? Even a few years now removed from the pandemic, it's it's still rough. You know, these [9th grade] kids are walking in with an average reading level of third grade. There's got to be something out there that can bridge this gap.
My name is Benjamin Bray. This is my 12th year of teaching. I wanted to find a program that Gen Ed, Sped, EL whoever it is, could approach reading and actually have a shot to grow.
Compared to other programs that will lower expectations, that's not what readable English is about. It broke down the phonemic barrier that so many of these kids have. We use readable English to be like, "Okay, if you don't know it, this is when we're going to learn it."
The glyphs are huge game changer. They go from skipping over words to stopping and going syllable by syllable. The cognitive build and the feeling reassured that you can do this, that comes from readable English. I get to see just phenomenal growth in students who sometimes just fall through the cracks.
There's data backing up what Readable English does. They get to visibly see and develop that sense of like, "I did this, this is my progress."
We've had kids come in and go from just waiting to fail to, you know, trying to put together an actual passing grade. It's very much a starting point. So take control of your own education, take control of your own opportunity to make whatever strides you can make.
Even those kids that I have to, you know, provide some one on one help to because they just got added, they get surrounded by a bunch of students who have made that transition from reading is impossible to, "Oh, I can do this. And if I keep giving myself more time and opportunity to do this, I will grow. " There has to be success to celebrate, and that's what this program gave them.
You don't even have to plan out what you're going to teach on what day. A year's worth of planning is already done, and all I had to do is click, click, click.
100% of our students, whether or not they went full blown reclassification, jumped at least a level.
It feels like a cheat code. It really does - some crazy numbers, just crazy amounts of success. It's great. It just means so much to a child to just to to have victories, to win, to overcome what they once thought was not possible. And that's, that's everything.
